4 days on Lake Garda for 36 Swedish orienteers

The large group of Scandinavian athletes has reached the Veneto region for an inspection of the locations that will host the 2023 EOC and has spent relaxing days between sport, fun and good food at Camping Club Bella Italia, event center of the Europeans!

At the head of the delegation Hakan Carlsson, technical director of the Swedish Federation, supported by the IOF’s CEO Henrik Eliasson. Also present was Pearl Forsberg, official speaker of the upcoming World Championships in Switzerland and the awaited European Sprint Championships in Veneto.

The group was led by Gabriele Viale, General Manager 2023 EOC, who for the occasion also had the opportunity to define with Eliasson further organizational aspects relating to the competition arenas of the stages in Verona, Soave and Vicenza. On Saturday 8 July, the guests arrived at the Camping Club Bella Italia, where they had the opportunity to settle in, enjoy an excellent dinner and take part in a tasting of Veneto wines.

On Sunday 9 July the group took part in a special excursion to Monte Baldo to discover the fantastic view of Lake Garda. After having crossed its waters by boat, the orienteers reached Malcesine, where they were welcomed by Sara Pallua, Councilor for Tourism of the charming town, thanks also to the collaboration of Loris Danielli, PromoE20 administrator.

They then reached the top at an altitude of 2218 meters via the Malcesine – Monte Baldo cableway to enjoy nature and the breathtaking panorama, have a good coffee and a snack. Upon their return, a new tasting of Italian delicacies and the classic red wines of Valpolicella awaited them. The tourist format will also be proposed again on the occasion of the European Sprint Championships in October for those who want to explore the area.

On the afternoon of Monday 10 July, however, a guided tour of the marvelous Berici Hills was held, where they were able to visit the cellars of the famous Prosecco and eat a traditional Italian pizza in a picturesque restaurant. In Alonte, which will also host a stage of the EOC Tour, the Swedes were also able to test the Code Hunter developed by PWT Italia, MOBO’s official partner in the peninsula.

Finally, on Tuesday 11 July the calendar has provided various and fun initiatives to choose from: a visit to Gardaland, the most famous theme park in Italy, or to the historic center of Sirmione, a medieval village famous for the Scaliger Castle and the fascinating Roman archaeological area Grotte di Catullo, on the tip of the narrow promontory jutting out into Lake Garda. And for those eager to relax, there are many activities at Camping Club Bella Italia.
