EOC Tour in Alonte on the Berici Hills

The final two days of the EOC Tour (the extra races), which, in its exploratory journey of the Veneto region with map and compass in hand, between the provinces of Verona and Vicenza, now reaches the Berici Hills. The event for the seventh stage is in Alonte, at the sports centre, from which the orienteers set off for the centre, also running inside the beautiful vineyards that border it, for a decidedly special Sprint.

“I am originally from Alonte, and it was here that PWT Italia, among the strongest teams in the orienteering movement, was born in the 1980s, and it was here that the town map was created – says Gabriele Viale, general manager of the European Orienteering Championships – I am therefore very proud to contribute to the promotion, especially in northern and central Europe, of this corner of paradise of our Italy, the home of Prosecco”.

Children from the Guglielmo Marconi School were also able to try the discipline guided by Davide Pecora, EOC Tour Manager, sharing this fun and educational moment with their parents starting with map interpretation.

At the end of the morning, the orienteers reached the Piovene Porto Godi Agricultural Society for a wine tasting, accompanied by delicious cheeses from the Caseificio Sapori di Montegnago.

The Piovene Porto Godi family produces wine and oil in Toara, in one of the most vocated areas of the Berici Hills. The choice has always been for local grapes, such as Tai Rosso. While in the bottle, it is the respect for time that is the secret to obtaining wines of great quality.

The EOC Tour extra races will end on Sunday, October 8th, in Vicenza, which will also host the thrilling Sprint Knock-Out for the awarding of the individual men’s and women’s European titles, after qualifying in Creazzo. The challenge, starting with the quarterfinals, will be live on TVA Vicenza from 2:10 p.m. to 4 p.m.
